GRUMPY & WISE

Is this man wise… or grumpy… or a bit of both? A few years ago I was co-owner of a restaurant in Cork, Ireland called Grumpy & Wise. My business partner worked in the hospitality business in New York and loved her local diner called ‘Grumpys’. I added the ‘Wise’ part.

The name caused great amusement among customers, asking us ‘who was the grumpy one and who was the wise one?

The name, while lighthearted, was a reminder not to judge one another and to remember that we are all equal. We may be banker, preacher, astronaut, owner or server but we are all equal while playing different roles of our choosing in life.

Today we wish that, as we approach each other in friendship we begin from a position of humility and kindness. To share each others differences upon a shared foundation of unity is the real adventure.
